Kreislaufwirtschaft im öffentlichen Verkehr – Potenziale für ein nachhaltiges und zukunftsfähiges Verkehrssystem

Der Online-Kurs wurde im Rahmen des Interreg Central Europe Projekts CE4CE – Public Transport Infrastructure in Central Europe – facilitate transitioning to circular economy entwickelt. Er wurde von  Rupprecht Consult entwickelt und über die Mobility Academy von Rupprecht Consult bereitgestellt.

Der Kurs vermittelt Grundlagen und Praxisbeispiele zur Anwendung der Kreislaufwirtschaft im öffentlichen Verkehr. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Fahrzeuge, Infrastruktur, Energieversorgung und Beschaffung sowie deren Beitrag zu einer ressourcenschonenden und langfristig nachhaltigen Entwicklung öffentlicher Verkehrssysteme.

Anhand von Erfahrungen aus europäischen Pilotprojekten werden Ansätze vorgestellt, mit denen sich Lebensdauer verlängern, Ressourcen effizienter nutzen und ökologische Auswirkungen reduzieren lassen. Darüber hinaus werden Methoden und Werkzeuge erläutert, die Verkehrsunternehmen, Städte, Planungsbüros und weitere Akteure bei der Entwicklung und Umsetzung zirkulärer Strategien unterstützen können.

Die einzelnen Kurseinheiten können entsprechend der jeweiligen Aufgaben und Interessen bearbeitet werden. Der Kurs richtet sich an Mitarbeitende von Verkehrsunternehmen, Städte und Kommunen, Planungs- und Ingenieurbüros, Forschungseinrichtungen sowie Unternehmen und Organisationen, die sich mit nachhaltiger Mobilität und Kreislaufwirtschaft im öffentlichen Verkehr befassen.

Inhalt der einzelnen Einheiten

Unit 1
Introduction to Circular Economy and the Shift in Public Transport Systems:

Unit 1 will get you ready to start with the course. It introduces you to the background and idea of the CE4CE project and how you can get the most out of this online platform and this course.

Unit 2
Introducing a life cycle approach to energy planning

Unit 2 introduces how a life cycle approach can reshape energy planning within the public transport sector, moving beyond traditional way of thinking. It highlights how circular economy principles—Avoid, Extend, Transform, Enable—can reduce emissions, improve resource efficiency, and support sustainable energy systems across a vehicle’s full lifespan. By applying this perspective, public transport operators can better understand energy impacts and make more future-proof decisions.

 

Unit 3
Introducing a life cycle approach to infrastructure planning

In this unit, the focus moves to the third major element of public transport systems, namely the infrastructure, highlighting how circular strategies can improve the infrastructure planning, management and maintenance.

 

 

 

Unit 4
Introducing a life cycle approach to rolling stock planning

This unit introduces a life-cycle approach to planning rolling stock in public transport, highlighting how circular strategies can reduce environmental impacts across production, operation, and end-of-life phases. It explores key sustainability assessment methods and presents practical pathways to extend vehicle lifespan, reuse components, and integrate circularity into procurement. The goal is to equip participants with tools to advance more resource-efficient and future-proof fleets.

 

Unit 5
Enabling conditions for circular public transport

The information available in this unit allows you to explore the conditions that can enable the implementation or enhancement of circularity in public transport.
